We are delighted that you are considering having your wedding with us at St Martin's. Churches are special places and there are some things about a church wedding that you just can’t get anywhere else.


Our clergy can help you with all the arrangements to ensure that your special day is personal, memorable, meaningful and beautiful.

Here’s some information to help you plan for your special day. 


Can I get married at St Martin’s?

You do need to have some connection with the church in order to be married here. Therefore, one of you has to show that one of the following applies:

  • has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months at any time
  • was baptised in the parish
  • was prepared for confirmation in the parish
  • has regularly gone to church services at St Martin’s for at least 6 months at any time

Or, that one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

  • has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months at any time
  • has regularly gone to church services at St Martin’s for at least 6 months at any time

Or, that one of your parents or grandparents was married in the parish

If you are unable to fulfil these requirements, you should contact your own Parish Church. However, in certain exceptional circumstances you may still marry at St. Martin’s under a Special Licence - see the Church of England wedding Special Licence website for more details.

There are also other a few other requirements, such as age, nationality, and current marital status that you must fulfill before you may legally marry in a Church of England church. These are outlined on the Church of England website and Nick will discuss these with you when you arrange to meet him.

If either of you are a non EU national then special conditions apply and you will need to discuss these with the clergy before we can agree to marry you at St. Martin’s.

Whether you decide to get married at St Martin’s or not, we wish you every blessing for your forthcoming marriage.


Things you’ll need to organise your wedding at St Martin’s

Firstly, you’ll need to arrange an initial meeting with Brandy, our Assistant Priest, to discuss your plans. You can contact her either in church at one of our services or at the parish office - 020 8992 2333 or email: 

She will confirm your eligibility to be married at St. Martin’s, discuss with you your plans for the day and agree a date and time for the wedding.

Once your date has been agreed, the church office admin staff will send you a confirmation letter together with:

  • A wedding application form – you will need to complete this form and arrange to bring it to the Church Office together with original proof of address, age and nationality.
  • A Banns form – to be returned to the church office indicating any preferred dates for the reading of your Banns.
  • A list of the fees for weddings in the Church of England – payment is due in the week before your wedding. The basic cost is £392 with things like an organist, flowers, heating and lighting as extras. For more details, please contact the parish office.
  • You will also need to arrange for the Banns of Marriage to be read in your own Parish Church(es) if either of you do not reside in St. Martin’s Parish, and for Banns Certificates to be issued and forwarded to us.

Closer to the wedding Brandy will contact you to finalise arrangements and discuss hymns, readings, music etc and you’ll need to settle any fees outstanding.

A couple of days before your wedding, we will organise a rehearsal.
